Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Delivers Unreal 15-Ball Fifty, Sets 3 New Records

Vaibhav

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old prodigy from Bihar, continued his remarkable rise in cricket with a stunning 15-ball half-century against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026, cementing his reputation as the most explosive young batter in world cricket.

A Record That Shocked the Cricket World

Just three days after celebrating his 15th birthday, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi walked out to bat at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati and proceeded to dismantle one of the most experienced bowling attacks in IPL history. Despite the pitch offering unusual assistance for the bowlers, with dampness making conditions challenging in the early stages, Sooryavanshi played as if none of it mattered. He raced to his fifty in just 15 deliveries, equalling the joint third-fastest half-century ever recorded in the history of the Indian Premier League.

The milestone places him alongside stalwarts such as Yusuf Pathan, Sunil Narine, Nicholas Pooran, and Jake Fraser-McGurk in the record books. Only four players, his own Rajasthan Royals opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal with 13 balls, KL Rahul, Pat Cummins, and Romario Shepherd with 14 balls each, have struck quicker IPL fifties than the teenager.

How the Innings Unfolded

Sooryavanshi was dropped off the very first ball he faced from Matt Henry, the debutant Kartik Sharma spilling a chance at midwicket and parrying it to the boundary. If Sooryavanshi needed any signal to go hard, that was it. He took full advantage, hitting Henry over deep point with an extraordinary piece of bat speed that left commentators and fans breathless. The scythed six off a slower cutter was described as one of the most astonishing shots of the young IPL 2026 season.

He moved from the boundary to his half-century with minimal fuss, adding a pair of sixes off left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad to bring up the milestone off just 15 balls. His full innings of 52 off 17 deliveries included 4 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of over 305. He was eventually dismissed at the start of the seventh over when Sarfaraz Khan held a sharp diving catch at sweeper cover off Anshul Kamboj, by which point the game was already won for Rajasthan Royals.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s IPL Journey So Far

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s story is unlike anything Indian cricket has seen before. At just 13, he became the youngest player in history to be purchased at an IPL auction when Rajasthan Royals bought him for INR 1.1 crore ahead of the 2025 season. He made his debut as a 14-year-old and instantly set the cricket world ablaze with a century off 35 balls against Gujarat Titans, the second-fastest hundred in IPL history at that point.

He finished IPL 2025 with 252 runs across seven games at an extraordinary strike rate of 206.55. His performances helped him earn a spot in India’s Under-19 World Cup squad, where he emerged as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer, amassing 439 runs including a breathtaking 175 in the final against England that helped India claim the title.

Riyan Parag’s Promise to Sooryavanshi

Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag revealed after the match that he had given Sooryavanshi an unconditional guarantee of playing all 14 league games this season, regardless of results. Parag said the team wanted to shield the youngster from any outside pressure and allow him to express himself freely. He also touched on a lighter note, mentioning that the team made sure the snacks Sooryavanshi craved were always available in the dressing room.

Parag admitted that even he and wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel sat in the dugout watching Sooryavanshi bat the same way fans in the stands did, marvelling at his extraordinary talent and natural instinct for destruction. With the entire IPL 2026 season still ahead, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already served notice that he intends to be its standout performer.
