LSG Bounce Back with Dominant Ten-Wicket Win to Stun RCB

LSG

A Statement Win From Lucknow

Cricket has a short memory, and Lucknow Super Giants proved that emphatically on Wednesday evening at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium. Just 48 hours after being humbled by Sunrisers Hyderabad in a record-breaking defeat, LSG came back with one of the most complete team performances of IPL 2026, bowling out Royal Challengers Bengaluru for just 118 and then chasing it down in only 11.4 overs without losing a single wicket. It was a ten-wicket win that sent a clear message to the rest of the IPL 2026 field: do not write off this team.

RCB’s Batting Collapse

There was enormous confidence in the RCB camp heading into this game. After Virat Kohli’s brilliant performance in their win over Gujarat Titans earlier in the week, RCB had reason to feel good about their batting lineup and their position in the top half of the points table. None of that translates automatically into the next match, however, and LSG’s bowlers were determined to prove that.

The match effectively turned in the fourth over when Mayank Yadav, who has been one of the revelations of IPL 2026, removed both RCB openers in the same over. Faf du Plessis chopped one onto his stumps trying to play a cut shot, and Virat Kohli, who appeared to have misjudged the pace of the delivery, edged to second slip.

RCB never recovered from losing two world-class players in the same over. Their middle order, which has always been regarded as somewhat fragile, failed to show the composure needed in the situation. Rajat Patidar was dismissed for a duck, and Glenn Maxwell, who can be brilliant on his day, tried to manufacture a big shot in the eighth over and was caught at long on for just 12.

Mayank Yadav’s Terrifying Spell

Mayank Yadav’s bowling in this match was at times genuinely frightening. He bowled consistently over 155 kph and generated uncomfortable pace off the surface that even experienced international batters find difficult to deal with. His final figures of 4/18 from four overs were excellent, but the impact he had on the RCB innings went beyond mere statistics.

After Mayank’s initial burst, the LSG spinners came on and kept the pressure going. Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets in the fourteenth over to reduce RCB to 89/8, and the tail added only 29 runs from that point. 118 was well below par on a surface that had played well for batting throughout the IPL 2026 season.

The Chase: A Walk in the Park

Lucknow’s opening pair of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock made the chase look almost embarrassingly simple. De Kock attacked from the start, hitting the very first ball for a boundary and never really allowing RCB to settle. Rahul was the more measured of the two, content to guide the ball into gaps and let his partner do the aggressive hitting.

By the end of the powerplay, LSG had scored 63 without loss and the match was effectively over. De Kock reached his fifty off just 25 balls with a six over long on that sailed high into the stands. Rahul joined him at the same landmark seven balls later, bringing up his fifty with a neatly placed sweep shot off a spinner.

The winning runs came in the twelfth over, with both openers finishing unbeaten. De Kock ended with 71 off 40 balls and Rahul with 50 off 32. The ten-wicket margin tells its own story.

LSG Back in the Race

This result lifts Lucknow Super Giants into sixth position on the IPL 2026 points table. They are back in playoff contention with three matches remaining, though they will need maximum points from those games and some help from other results to squeeze into the top four.

Captain Rishabh Pant, who did not need to bat in the chase, was vocal in his praise for Mayank Yadav’s bowling and the team’s collective effort after the heavy defeat against SRH. He acknowledged that losing badly hurts, but emphasized the team’s ability to reset quickly and come back with a clear game plan.

For RCB, this is a painful loss that could affect their net run rate, which may prove critical at the end of the league stage. They remain in the top four but cannot afford another performance like this one if they want to stay there.
