Khalid Jamil Names India Squad for Asian Cup Qualifier vs Bangladesh; Chhetri, Sahal, Liston Miss Out

Indian national team head coach Khalid Jamil has announced a 23-member probables list for India’s upcoming Asian Cup 2027 qualifier against Bangladesh, scheduled to take place on November 18 at the National Stadium, Dhaka.

This fixture, part of the FIFA International match window, comes as India seeks to rebuild after being mathematically eliminated from Asian Cup qualification contention.

Jamil’s Bold Selection Calls

In a surprising move, Khalid Jamil India squad does not feature several seasoned regulars, including Sunil Chhetri, Sahal Abdul Samad, and Liston Colaco. The decision reflects a strategic shift toward giving opportunities to emerging talents and planning for future tournaments.

“With the team out of contention, it’s time to test our next generation,” a source close to the coaching setup noted.

The squad will assemble in Bengaluru on Thursday, where a preparatory camp will be held before traveling to Dhaka on November 15.

Emerging Faces in the Probables

Among the notable inclusions is Mohammed Sanan, who was initially called up for the India U-23 side but has now been promoted to the senior probables list.

Other promising names include Irfan Yadwad, Macarton Louis Nickson, and Brison Fernandes, all of whom have impressed in domestic competitions and the Indian Super League (ISL).

A New Era for the Blue Tigers

The Khalid Jamil India squad for the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers marks a clear transition phase for the Blue Tigers. Without long-time talisman Sunil Chhetri, India will rely on the youthful energy of Chhangte, Suresh Singh Wangjam, and Vikram Partap Singh to lead the attack.

Jamil’s emphasis on domestic performers highlights his intent to strengthen depth and give younger players valuable international exposure.

India’s upcoming match against Bangladesh in Dhaka offers a chance to end the qualification campaign positively and lay the groundwork for future success.
