Pro10 Malaysia Cricket Tournament Postponed Until After T20 World Cup
The Pro10 Malaysia cricket tournament, originally scheduled to be held at Bayuemas Oval, Selangor from January 30 to February 2, has been postponed due to logistical challenges. The event is now expected to take place after the 2026 T20 World Cup, which is set to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Tournament Rescheduling and Details
The organisers of Pro10 Malaysia confirmed the postponement in an official statement on Friday. They cited logistical issues as the reason for the change and stated that the new dates would be announced following the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup. In addition, the tournament will see an expansion in participation, increasing the number of teams from three to four.
“The Pro10 Malaysia cricket tournament has been postponed to a later date, post the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup in India, due to logistical issues. New dates will be announced in due time,” the statement read.
Support from Cricket Authorities and Ambassadors
Pro10 Malaysia is backed by former India cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri, while Sir Vivian Richards serves as the tournament’s brand ambassador. The Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) has extended its full support to the organisers, ensuring that the event will proceed successfully once rescheduled.
“All stakeholders, including cricketers, match officials and the Malaysian Cricket Association, are aligned with the postponement and have extended full support to the tournament,” the MCA confirmed.
Opportunities for Players
The tournament promises to provide top Malaysian players with opportunities to compete against international talent and gain exposure for other leagues. Organisers emphasized that the event will offer valuable experience and help raise the standard of cricket in the region.
“The event promises our top players a great opportunity to play against global players and set their sights at other leagues. We are hopeful it will go ahead as planned once fresh dates are finalized by Pro10 Group who are tournament owners,” the MCA added.
Looking Ahead
With the T20 World Cup taking precedence in February and March, the Pro10 Malaysia organisers are now focused on finalizing logistics and expanding team participation. Cricket fans in Malaysia and the region can expect a more competitive and exciting tournament once the new dates are announced.
The rescheduling ensures that all stakeholders, including international players, match officials, and cricket associations, will have the opportunity to participate and contribute to a successful Pro10 Malaysia event.
Conclusion
While the postponement of Pro10 Malaysia is a setback for early-year cricket, the alignment with post-T20 World Cup scheduling provides an opportunity to enhance participation and quality. Fans and players alike can look forward to an expanded and more competitive tournament once it is rescheduled.
