Diksha Dagar Wins Deaflympics Golf Gold

Diksha Dagar

Diksha Dagar has successfully defended her gold medal at the Deaflympics, delivering an outstanding performance in Tokyo. The Indian golfer finished with a total of 11-under 205, clinching victory by a massive 14-stroke margin in the women’s individual strokeplay competition at the par-72 Wakasu Golf Links. Her rounds of 68, 65, and 72 ensured she remained well ahead of the competition, with Margaux Rezo of France and Canada’s Erica Dawn Rivard finishing second and third.

Diksha Dagar’s Dominant Deaflympics Performance

Diksha’s remarkable final round of 11-under highlighted her exceptional skill and consistency. On the opening day, she carded a four-under 68, the only sub-par score among 21 competitors. Her aggressive approach on par-5s and precise short game enabled her to secure a comfortable lead, finishing the tournament with a cumulative 26-under over 54 holes.

Historic Achievements

At 24, Diksha Dagar has already established herself as a trailblazer in Indian golf. She won gold at the 2021 Deaflympics and a silver in 2017, becoming only the second Indian woman after Aditi Ashok to win on the Ladies European Tour at age 18. She is also the only hearing-impaired golfer to represent India at both the Deaflympics and Olympic Games, having participated in Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.

Other Indian Golfers at the Deaflympics

Diksha’s compatriots put in respectable performances, with Harsh Singh finishing 12th at 22-over 238 and Vibhu Tyagi tying for 14th at 24-over 240. Despite stiff competition from athletes across 20 nations, Diksha’s superior planning and execution allowed her to dominate the field.

Diksha’s Strategy and Preparation

“I stuck to my plan — attacking the flags on par-5s and focusing on my short game and approach shots,” Diksha said. Her disciplined preparation and exposure to international tournaments through the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Indian Golf Union, Ladies European Tour (LET), and Women’s Golf Association of India were crucial in achieving this success.

Significance of the Victory

Diksha Dagar’s gold medal not only reaffirms her dominance in Deaflympics golf but also showcases her resilience and commitment to Indian sports. Her achievement inspires aspiring golfers and highlights India’s growing stature in international golf competitions.

The back-to-back gold medals at the Deaflympics confirm Diksha Dagar as a leading figure in global golf, representing India with excellence and determination.
