Pakistan vs Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Series: Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Nawaz Guide Pakistan to Victory
Pakistan recovered brilliantly from a top-order collapse to edge out Zimbabwe by five wickets in the opening match of the T20I tri-series. Zimbabwe, who have already qualified for next year’s T20 World Cup, gave Pakistan a scare with a solid start but were eventually restricted to 147-8 thanks to disciplined bowling by Pakistan’s spinners.
Zimbabwe’s Strong Start
Zimbabwe got off to a flying start as Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani put on a 59-run opening stand. Bennett scored 49, hitting eight boundaries, while Marumani added 30 runs, setting a competitive platform for the visitors.
However, Pakistan’s spinners, led by Mohammad Nawaz (2-22), Abrar Ahmed (1-28), and Saim Ayub (1-31), slowed the scoring rate and picked crucial wickets to prevent Zimbabwe from posting a bigger total. Fast bowler Brad Evans also contributed with 2 wickets for 26 runs, including the early dismissals of Sahibzada Farhan and Babar Azam, leaving Pakistan reeling at 30-3.
Pakistan’s Chase
Pakistan’s innings looked shaky initially, but Fakhar Zaman returned to T20 cricket with a top score of 44 off 32 balls, stabilizing the chase alongside Usman Khan (37 not out). The pair stitched together a vital 61-run partnership to keep Pakistan on course.
Zimbabwe had opportunities to snatch victory but missed chances in the final overs. With 15 runs needed from 10 balls, Zaman’s timely boundaries sealed the match, giving Pakistan a five-wicket win.
