Rohit Sharma Named 2026 T20 World Cup Brand Ambassador

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has embraced a new chapter in his cricketing journey after being named the brand ambassador of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup. The 38-year-old Indian cricket legend, now retired from T20I and Test formats, admitted he is gradually getting used to sitting at home and watching matches instead of playing them, marking a significant transition in his illustrious career.

Rohit Sharma Honoured as T20 World Cup Brand Ambassador

Rohit Sharma expressed immense pride and humility at being appointed as the ICC brand ambassador for the upcoming T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, 2026. Speaking during the schedule unveiling, he said, “I was told by someone that while playing no one has been announced as an ambassador, so it’s a great privilege and honour for me.”

Although retired from T20Is and Tests, Rohit continues to actively participate in ODIs, making this announcement especially unique. It also underscores his enduring influence and reputation in international cricket.

Reflecting on Past Triumphs and Future Aspirations

Having captained India to victory at the previous T20 World Cup in 2024, Rohit Sharma is optimistic about the next tournament. “Hopefully we can create again the magic which we created last year with a different bunch of boys. It’s a huge task to win an ICC event, and in my 18 years I have been fortunate to win two recently,” he said. The former captain emphasized the joy of winning major trophies and hopes for a strong performance by the Suryakumar Yadav-led team on home soil.

Adjusting to Life After T20 and Test Cricket

Transitioning away from the fast-paced T20 and Test formats has been challenging, but Rohit is making the most of this period by spending quality time with family, training, and attending social events. He admitted, “To sit on the other side and watch, having played in each of these T20 World Cups so far, will feel different. I am getting used to sitting at home and watching.”

Rohit’s remarkable T20I career includes 4,231 runs at an average of 32.01 and a strike rate of 140.89, reflecting his status as one of India’s most prolific cricketers in the format.

Praising the Indian Women’s Team Triumph

Known for supporting his teammates, Rohit lauded the Indian women’s cricket team for their recent World Cup triumph. With Harmanpreet Kaur present at the event, he said, “I know what they have gone through all these years. I can understand the feeling of setbacks year after year for not winning the trophy.”

He added that even though he was not directly involved, he could sense the dedication and passion that led to the women lifting their maiden World Cup. “For them to lift the trophy, I was there to watch that. It was a great feeling not just for me but for the entire nation,” he remarked.

Looking Ahead: Groupings and Competitive Spirit

Speaking about the upcoming T20 World Cup groupings, Rohit highlighted the competitiveness of all teams. “Our Group has Pakistan, USA, Netherlands, and Namibia. You cannot go into any tournament thinking you can take the foot off the pedal. You have to be on top of your game from ball one,” he said.

He also expressed surprise and excitement at the participation of teams like Italy and hopes to see more countries from Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia participating in the future, emphasizing the global growth of cricket.

Rohit Sharma’s Legacy and Continuing Impact

Rohit Sharma’s new role as brand ambassador not only reflects his cricketing achievements but also his ongoing influence on the sport. From inspiring young cricketers to supporting both men’s and women’s teams, Rohit continues to shape Indian cricket’s narrative even off the field. This appointment also demonstrates the ICC’s recognition of his stature as a cricketing icon.

With this transition, fans can now enjoy witnessing Rohit Sharma’s insights, leadership, and passion for cricket from a new vantage point, while anticipating another thrilling T20 World Cup on Indian soil.
